Urban Dare Phoenix Winners

Thank you to everyone who participated in Urban Dare Phoenix.

Congratulations to Denton Taylor & Sam Sprague for winning with a time of 2:03:16.

Their winning strategy was to hop on the ligh rail to Central & Thomas to the statue of the code talker. They figured out the rest of the clues on the way, and worked their way back on foot. Well done.

Kristin Herman & Elizabeth Sparks finished second, and third place honors went to April Hull & Gene Day.

At the beginning of the race, I explained that there might be a tricky angle for one of the required photos. I assumed that everyone would get inside the crime lab and need to focus upwards to get a shot of themselves with the chandelier. It turns out the front door is locked on Saturday's. My bad. Fortunately, everyone got this shot. A few teams even managed to get inside.

Urban Dare will be donating 5% of this year's race registration to fight breast cancer. Now that I've started on this fight, I've started to discover how many people I know whose families have been affected by breast cancer. We're happy to do our small part.

We're looking at doing a Fall race in Tucson.

Here are the top 5 finishers of Urban Dare Phoenix:

2:03:16 - Denton Taylor & Sam Sprague
2:13:09 - Kristin Herman & Elizabeth Sparks
2:20:18 - April Hull & Gene Day - The Yellow Ones Don't Stop
2:28:32 - Nicole Moest & Lexi Moest - Youth Has No Age." Picasso"
2:35:33 - kirk christiano & Jim Garman - There's no I" in Beer"

Urban Dare Austin Report

Thank you to everyone who came out today for Urban Dare Austin. It was a beautiful day and we blended nicely into the madness of SXSW.

I am calmly sitting at a table at the finish and in comes someone yelling, "Kevin, do I need a photo of the egg? DO I NEED A PHOTO OF THE EGG??? DO I NEED A PHOTO OF THE EGG????? On about his sixth utterance, I figured out what he was asking, and I said yes. Kip Fiebig then took a photo and handed in his passport to finish with the winning time of 1:26:21 along with his teammate David Bogle. This is Kips third first place finish, out of 3 total, in Austin.

Second place went to Jason Mittman and his father Michale Koranek, who finished 2 minutes behind. Sorry guys, you don't qualify for the family division. This is Jason's first second place finish in Austin. His other 2, he ran with Kip.

I want to thank Irene Rivers who selected most of today's checkpoints. She lets me write the clues. I think we will come back sometime in the Fall for Urban Dare on bicycles. This will be our first bicycle dare.

Urban Dare will be donating 5% of this year's race registration to fight breast cancer. Now that I've started on this fight, I've started to discover how many people I know whose families have been affected by breast cancer. We're happy to do our small part.

Thank you all.

Urban Dare Austin - Saturday, March 21

Urban Dare Austin begins Saturday, March 21 at Noon. The race will begin and end at Mother Egans Irish Pub, at 715 W 6th Street. Check-in will begin at 11:00am and will be taking registration up to the start of the race.

Proceeds from the race will go towards the fight against breast cancer.

This will be our first race with a family division. I've always allowed kids to race with their parents, but never made an official division. Family divisions can be three or four people and must have one person 16 or under.

We will host 5 events in Texas this year, so we will have a series champion. We will take your 3 best finishes for champion points. The winning pair will get Urban Dare belt buckles. I've always been jealous of belt buckles from rodeos, so we are creating them for the Texas series.

We are relaxing our rule on having to wear Urban Dare shirts. If you have team costumes/uniforms, you may wear those. Otherwise, you must wear the Urban Dare shirts, which you will receive at check-in. There will also be a $50 prize for the best photo from the race. You should bring a cell phone and a digital camera to show your pictures at the end of the race. A cell phone camera will work. Maps are also handy and you should have someone to call to help look up clues. I also recommend a pen or pencil to take notes.

Urban Dare, www.urbandare.com, is the race where smarts can beat speed. Teams of 2 solve clues to find checkpoints where they must take photos or perform dares.

Once you are out of the starting blocks, you will pick up your clue sheets and be on your way. You can call friends as much as you want for help on clues. For the checkpoints that mention a dare, you must check in with the Urban Dare official, accomplish your task, and get your passport stamped before moving on. On checkpoints that mention a photo, you must get a photo with both team members to show you were both there.

This is a team race. You must be together throughout the race. You may walk, run or use public transportation to get to checkpoints. At checkpoints with dares, you must accomplish a task and get your passport stamped to move on to the next checkpoint. Dares range from throwing a bulls-eye, doing a climbing wall, completing a puzzle or eating something (things people like, not bugs).

We expect the winners will finish the race in about 2 hours and most of you will finish under 4 hours. We are working to provide a fun-filled day for you, while providing some good challenges.

Here is the Texas series schedule. Austin is March 21, Dallas on May 2, San Antonio on Sep 19, and Houston on November 21. We will also add Ft. Worth in the Fall.

See you at the race.

Urban Dare Tampa - Best Dressed

Congratulations to Irene Pistorino & Laura Maiocco of Stimulus Package for the best costuming at Urban Dare Tampa. If only those $100 bills were real.
